Uncovered by Celebrity Makeup Artists
Getting ready for summer involves more than just spending hours on the elliptical machine. To look your best, you also need to sweatproof your beauty routine. Even though the warmer temps and the sun can make you feel great, they can also wreak havoc on your skin and hair (wrinkles, skin—you name it). And does anyone need the raccoon eyes that show up when their makeup melts on a humid afternoon? In order to help you adjust to the sunshine, we've asked beauty experts (who've worked with everyone from Madonna to Halle Berry to Fergie) to share their secrets on how they keep their celebrity clients looking fresh in the summer heat.
Protect the Face

Much of the time, the flakiness you battle in the winter turns into oiliness during the warmer months. That's why experts like Chantal Moore, a Los Angeles-based makeup artist whose clients include Faith Hill and Kristen Bell, recommend only the basics. "I don't suggest anything heavy in the summer to clients—it's mainly about protection," says Moore. As a double-duty fix with simple coverage, she uses Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20.
Protect the Lips
t's important to remember that lips are susceptible to sun damage, says Miami-based dermatologist Heather Woolery. "Skin cancer on the lips has a higher risk of metastasis, so lip protection is essential," explains Dr. Woolery, who recommends wearing Neutrogena's SPF 15 Lip Moisturizer during the day.
Waterproof the Eyes
Keeping any makeup on in humidity can be a challenge, but experts like Fiona Stiles (who's worked with Madonna and Fergie) say the eyes are most important. "Waterproof eye makeup is a must," says Stiles, who recommends Bobbi Brown's Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. "It's a good idea to ensure that the makeup you put on in the morning stays where it's supposed to be until dinnertime."
